MARTA really IS smart-ah

I have so many fond memories of my parents driving us to Riverside...hopping on the green line...taking the 'T' into Boston to explore the city. Wait. I think I'm confused. I never took the T until I was in college...at which point everyone thought I was an expert because I grew up in 'Boston'. Not wanting to embarrass myself to my new college friends, we went to Davis Sq and took the Red line...somehow ending up at the airport instead of Fanueil Hall.

I digress. The public transportation system in Atlanta is called MARTA. Unless you live in-town or need to get to the airport, it really doesn't GO anywhere. But, my kids love trains...and I'm determined to toughen them up so they don't grow up to be wimpy suburb kids who are afraid to ride the subway. We took MARTA from Sandy Springs to Peachtree Center and then walked to Centennial Olympic Park (site of the 96 Olympic Park bombing...lovely). It probably would have been enough JUST to take the train into town and then turn around and come back home. Allie and Ryan loved it. At every stop, Ryan asked 'are we there yet?'. They liked that the train went into the tunnels as well as above ground.

Waiting for the train at Sandy Springs
The center of the park has a large fountain shaped like the Olympic Rings. The water shoots up in varying patterns. Great idea for a hot Atlanta day!
Ryan was not so sure about the fountain at first
Allie jumped right in
Ryan got the hang of it
On the train back to Sandy Springs
